The Wanderers Community Fundraising Lunch 2024

The Wanderers Community Fundraising Lunch 2024The Wanderers Community Fundraising Lunch 2024

The lunch was held on the 6th of April 2024 at the Thanet Wanderers Clubhouse before the club’s first XV’s final league fixture of the season against Ashford RFC. It was good to welcome, Guests of Honour, the Mayor of Broadstairs Councillor Kristian Bright and his deputy, Councillor. Mike Garner who joined the seventy diners. Thank you all for attending.

Over £3,000 was raised on the day which will be used to finance the Club’s Schools Programme and the SEND programme. A video illustrating the programmes, including testimonials from headmasters, and some of the children who have benefited from the SEND programme was shown. Mario Garcia whose coaching is central to the programmes drew well-earned applause. Raffles and Auctions raised welcome funds with Club Chairman, Chris Panteli, as the chief auctioneer and Annmarie Carfoot the club’s safeguarding officer and Head of Finance, Kelly Smith, who ensured everyone was well laden with raffle tickets. Thanks to all who contributed raffle prizes, particularly Lindsay Panteli through the Bike Shed at 71 Canterbury Road in Margate for the child’s tricycle.

Andy Bull, the club’s Development Director, played a major role in the day’s organisation but was absent because of business commitments. Vicky Flower, the club’s Community Director had also been involved in the organisation and was able to ensure that everything went smoothly.

Thank you to the club’s caterer, Maxine Rogers, for an excellent lunch, well served by the waiting staff and to Gerry Doyle who ensured no glass was empty for long. Most of those who attended the lunch stayed to support to Wanderers in their match and help secure the win on a successful day.
