Match Report & Information

Dreadful Ten but Fantastic Four

The scoreline doesn't show how tight and fiercely competitive this game was...apart for a 10 minute period!

Throughout the first half, both teams defended superbly and battled between the 22s, trying to break-down the opposition's defence. The Bulls looked sharper outside and the Wanderers looked more comfortable in set-piece and the tight, but the honours were reasonably even, it was looking like a very tough & close game.

Then came the second half.

Early in the second half, during a 10 minute period, we fell asleep, our defensive line did not attack the space and the Bulls (not surprisingly) ran hard into this area which was previously unavailable to them, and advanced with ease, ultimately they scored. Our heads went down. We continued to show the Bulls space, they used it and they scored again. Same again, once more.

After the third score, in this 10 minute Aylesford purple patch, the Wanderers players gathered, regrouped and decided to get their mind-set right and back on plan, (not surprisingly) they finished the game as most of the game had gone, battling really hard in a really tough and competitive game.

Apart from 'the' 10 minute period, the team functioned really well against a very good Bulls side, everyone put in big shifts and stood shoulder to shoulder in defence. Set piece and game management was executed precisely and the team knew what to do and where to do it.

Special mention must go to the four young men who made their senior debuts. At the end of the game they received massive praise from their team-mates for their work rate and fearless tackle counts, these four young men are our future, well done lads.
