Ex-players, players and new recruits gathered last Saturday to play touch, enjoy watching international rugby and the whole rugby union experience. Ages ranged from 13 to 60 and playing standards ranged from beginner to managerial, with everything in between.

The older players, some of whom had not played for a few years, soon remembered their footwork and had never forgotten their excellent handling skills. The younger players sped and jinked through the gaps created by the veteran players. The results were unimportant, as everyone was there to enjoy Rugby Union.

Matches were fairly and sensitively refereed by Ian Lodge and Jon Hamp, who bought a wealth of knowledge to the proceedings. After the games the players and officials experienced a lavish feast prepared by Kelly in the sumptuous surroundings of the refurbished Thanet clubhouse.

Then they settled down to watch the very entertaining, and nerve racking Women's Rugby World Cup match between England and Canada. As the match was drawn, England progress to one semi-final against Ireland, while Canada play France in the other. Potentially England could face Canada again the final (17 August).

Many thanks go to the Kent RFU - Women and Girls Section which sponsored the whole day and promote Women's RWC and Women and Girls rugby.
