Women’s and Girl’s Rugby

Thanks to Vicky Diamantis, our Women's DoR for this update on a month where a piece of Wanderers history will be made as the re-formed Women’s team plays its first match for some many years against a Dartford Valley development side known as the Valley Roses. The team is based in Stone near Dartford and has performed and grown incredibly since its creation five or six years ago. With one promotion already behind them they now sit top of their current league the women’s NC2 (SE) East. They have promised to bring their development team but this will be an excellent first competitive game for the Wanderers Women.

March Ladies and Girls.

Well, game day is nigh! The time has come for us to put everything we have learnt to good use against Dartford Valley. The ladies have worked exceptionally hard to get to this point and we have some novices who have never played rugby before who are taking everything in their stride. Of course, we could not have gotten to this point without certain people who have volunteered their time to support us in various different ways, namely: Patrick, Ian, Annmarie, Steve, Brioni, Kelly, Andy, Chris, Gerry. There is a real sense of team spirit among the ladies and this does not just happen; the club has accommodated us so that we can play and have everything we need.

As well as our wonderful club, we have been exceptionally lucky to have the support of Nikky at War Machines Gym, who has allowed us to train there for free once a week to build our strength (and to enjoy each other’s company!). It is great that the girls come and join us too and their strength and sense of team is incredible – they make us very proud. We also now have the support of Jo Tolley and her business SKIN Beauty & Aesthetics Margate which again will help us to move forward in various areas.

The girls have also been training and playing hard! The U18s recently won 43-19 playing as the Viragos with Izzy putting over a couple of conversions and tries from Bella and Keira. The U15s have also been in action, as well as the U13s, who are both making great progress with their fellow Viragos. These girls are learning the game so quickly now and are demonstrating week in, week out what they have been learning from the excellent coaches across Thanet, Deal and Dover.

If you are around next Saturday (12th March) at 1:45 pm, come along and support us! It would mean a lot to have people cheering us on in our inaugural game! Finally, if you do want to take up this wonderful sport, girls' training is Tuesdays @ 5:30 pm and Sundays @ 9:30 am, and women’s is Tuesday @ 6:30 pm
