Match Report & Information

Thanet U17s travelled up the motorway to South London for a friendly fixture against Blackheath on Sunday.

Despite struggling with injuries Thanet still fielded a strong team with various players playing out of position to help the cause.  Thanet started brightly and moved the ball around well, some good forward interchanges resulted in Sonny Teal powering through two or three tackles from inside his own half finishing off under the posts for Thanet's first try which was converted by Harrison Leach.

Thanet were in control for long periods of the first half and eventually the pressure in the oppositions 22 resulted in a try for Finlay Keyworth, he finished off a powerful move from the forwards led by Freddie Rigden.  Again the try was converted by Harrison Leach.

Blackheath eventually came to life and despite some heroic tackling from scrum half Leon Doody and centre Gabe Durrant they broke Thanet's defences to score, the conversion was missed.  At half time the score was 14-5 to Thanet.

Following a good half time talking to Thanet started the second half well with half time substitute Harry Carter making a real impact.  Thanet managed to force Blackheath into their 22 and following a good turnover the ball was quickly spun wide for Tom Piggott to score in the corner, try converted this time by Jack Cohen.

Despite Thanet's dominance the second half proved a fairly scrappy affair with both teams making some silly errors.  Thanet again broke the Blackheath defence with some good passing between the forwards which saw the impressive Sonny Teal go over again for his second try.

Despite a consolation try from Blackheath, Thanet were worthy winners 26-10.  The U17's travel to Aylesford on Sunday for another Kent League Match hoping to continue this good form.
