Thanet Wanderers Ladies 1XVv Lordswood Valkyries

Kick-off: 2pm | Venue: Home | In aid of Breast Cancer Awareness

It was a sea of pink at St Peters this weekend as Thanet Wanderers Ladies hosted Lordswood Valkyries in their latest league fixture. The team proudly used the occasion to raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Awareness, pink socks, bows, and hair showed the squad’s full support for a great cause. Their efforts paid off too, over the weekend, the club raised an amazing £500 in support of breast cancer charities.

Lordswood kicked off, but the ball failed to go ten, giving Thanet an early scrum on halfway. From there, the home side settled quickly, moving the ball confidently through the hands. Neave Evans, Amy Fowler, Emily Williams and Ella Thurman-Newell combined well to make early ground, setting the tone for a fast-paced and physical first half.

Thanet kept the pressure on with several strong attacking phases. A well-worked move through Neave Evans and Tabs Raymonde saw Brioni Reah crash over the line despite three defenders clinging on, a proper forwards’ try! Chloe Siddall coolly slotted the conversion to make it 7–0.

The momentum stayed with Thanet as Sorcha Maddison and Brioni Reah punched holes through the defence. After some brilliant link-up play between Tabs Raymonde, Sorcha Maddison, Emily Williams and Neave Evans, the pressure finally told, Neave Evans powered over from close range for Thanet’s second. Tabs Raymonde added the extras to stretch the lead to 14–0.

Lordswood struck back just before half-time, scoring in the corner after sustained pressure. The conversion went wide, leaving the half-time score at Thanet 14 – 5 Lordswood.

The second half turned into a real battle. Lordswood came out firing, using their physical pack to dominate possession and territory. Thanet’s defence, led by big tackles from Sian Boyce, Ella Thurman -Newell, and Leigh Bowen worked tirelessly to hold them out. Eventually, Lordswood broke through to score under the posts, closing the gap to 14–12.

With the wind behind them, Lordswood continued to press and added another try in the corner to take the lead 14–17. Thanet threw everything into the closing minutes, fighting hard for territory and possession, but a late penalty to Lordswood ended the game.

Full Time: Thanet 14 – 17 Lordswood

It was a tough, physical contest played in great spirit, with both sides showing grit and determination. Thanet’s defence was outstanding, and the effort from every player was clear to see.

Back of the Match: Chloe Siddall, creative in attack and always finding space.

Special Mention: Neave Evans, Excellent playing out of position and still making huge carries.
