Match Report

A cloudy but bright afternoon with a slight breeze set the stage as Thanet travelled to Ashford for an exciting encounter.

First Half
Thanet kicked off strongly, pinning Ashford back with fierce defence. Early attacking phases saw Georgia Elks make a powerful run, only to be held up over the line. Pressure continued and the ball was worked wide, allowing Shannon Cook to crash over for the opening try.

The visitors kept their momentum, with Georgia Elks breaking through to score in the corner, followed by Neave Evans darting under the posts after a slick team move. Alexandra White added the extras, giving Thanet a healthy lead.

Ashford fought back with a determined spell and were rewarded with a try out wide, but Thanet responded quickly. A fantastic passage of play ended with Tabs Raymonde diving over in the corner to secure Thanet’s fourth try of the half.

Half-time score: Ashford 5 - Thanet 22

Second Half
Thanet started brightly after the restart, combining well across the park. Tabs Raymonde struck again in the corner after sustained pressure, followed shortly by Maria Castellina who spotted a gap and powered through to extend the lead.

Ashford weren’t finished, though. Their pack drove over from close range, and a successful conversion narrowed the margin. Thanet responded with determination, Maria Castellina crossing for her second try of the afternoon after a quick tap penalty.

In the closing stages Ashford piled on the pressure, but Thanet’s defensive line held firm. Tackle after tackle kept the home side at bay, and despite sustained possession, Ashford couldn’t find a way through.

Final score: Ashford 12 - Thanet 37

It was a fantastic all-round performance from Thanet, full of attacking energy and resilient defence. Every player dug deep, supported one another, and left everything out on the pitch. A true team effort under the autumn sun.

Forward of the match - Rebecca Hewitt, relentless work rate and huge impact up front.

Back of the match - Shannon Cook, electric on the wing with brilliant pace.
