Thanet took only five minutes before they scored the first points of the match. Westcombe Park gave away a penalty close to their own line and Tom Walton reacted quickly passing the ball to Marius Thompson who then released Gil Smith to score the first try of the game. Walton was successful with the conversion for an early 7- 0 lead. Walton extended the lead after 8 minutes with a penalty from 40 metres out. The home side were not given a chance to regroup as Ben Turner made a break straight from the kick off. Andrew Letts continued the move and Thompson crossed the line for Thanet’s second try of the game. Another conversion took the lead out to 17 - 0.
Westcombe Park now had a period of possession but were unable to break through Thanet’s defence. Wanderers were soon on the attack again and in a similar move after they were awarded another penalty, the ball was recycled quickly and Callum Doody was able to score. Thanet started the second half again in the ascendancy. Disrupting the opposition’s scrum close to the try line, Walton was on hand to take the ball and find Ben Cannon who scored the bonus point try.
