Both sides went into this game wanting maximum points, Thanet to maintain their position as second in the table and Medway to remain above Vigo at the opposite end of the division. The game was only 6 minutes old when Wanderers stole the ball and Tom Walton raced down the touchline to score their first try of the game and he converted his own try to give Thanet an early 7-0 lead.
Gabe Hayden scored Thanet’s second try of the game with just under 20 minutes played and Walton was again successful with the conversion for a 14-point lead for Thanet. The home side kept up the pace and continued to attack and after being held up over the line Henry Mirams collected the visitor’s goal line drop out and returned the ball to score Wanderers third try of the game. Medway did set up a number of chances but solid defence from the home side left them unable to score. Thanet, turning defence quickly into attack, enabled Callum Doody to score the bonus point try after 27 minutes play. This was followed by a period where Medway were able to retain the ball and they were rewarded with their first try of the game after a penalty gave them an advantageous position on the field and possession from the ensuing lineout. At half-time the teams turned around with Thanet leading 24-5.
The second half started quietly with neither side retaining good periods of possession an no opportunities to score.. On the hour, Medway managed to score their second try of the game to double their score to 10 points. Thanet replied immediately with Ben Cannon taking a quick tap penalty and dashing across the line. Walton was again successful with the conversion leaving Medway trailing 31-10.
Louis Marshall was the next to score for Thanet as good ball retention opened the game up for Wanderers sixth try of the game. Medway were awarded a penalty try as the game came to a close as Thanet were deemed to have given away too many penalties in the red zonemaking the final score 36-17 to Thanet.
The only downside for Thanet during the game were the two yellow cards they received in the second half. One for Gil, Smith who spend 10 minutes on the sideline after 66 minutes and one for Dominic Springer as the game came to a close.
