RIP Brian Bingham

RIP Brian BinghamRIP Brian Bingham

It is with the deepest regret that we report the death of Brian, who died at his daughter Kerry’s home near Chichester on Tuesday 6th December. We send our condolences to the Bingham family on their sad loss.

Brian played at full-back for fifteen seasons with the Wanderers and was honoured with the captaincy for the seventy-fifth anniversary season. John Treharne was his deputy and he took over from Brian when a business move curtailed his year in office. One of Brian’s major achievements was to compile a history of the Wanderers’ first seventy-five years which entailed much painstaking research in the days before the internet.

Brian was one of the three Wanderers who were with the club for more than seventy years and together with Brian Gilham and Roddy Macaulay, he joined us for lunch in September 2019 to mark this remarkable achievement. Brian was on sparkling form that afternoon which he clearly enjoyed in the company of Wanderers young and old. He is pictured on that day, pint in hand, with his great friend and compatriot Roddy, their friendship spanned many decades.

The funeral and committal will be at St Mary’s Church, Vicarage Lane, East Preston, BN16 1JL at 3.15 on 16th December. This will be followed by refreshments at the Royal British Legion, The Street, East Preston, BN16 1JL.

Gentlemen, please wear colourful ties and Ladies a colourful item of your choice.
