A BIG THANK YOU FROM LALEHAM GAP SCHOOL Thanet Wanderers vice chairman Chris Marson has recently visited the Panthers Class at Laleham Gap School to talk about Rugby and the World Cup. Class teacher Paul Ursell likes to make learning fun and his pupils have found out about the countries competing in the cup and done rugby maths and writing. Chris praised Mr Ursell’s creativity in using the world cup as a basis for lessons before presenting the children with a rugby shirt each and then leading them in some rugby coaching as part of a PE lesson. The letter of thanks below has been received from Paul Ursell Dear Thanet Wanderers Big Thank you from Laleham Gap School As you will be aware I contacted you a few weeks ago with a view to arranging a visit. You subsequently sent Chris Marson to visit my class. I just wanted to put on record my appreciation for the excellent work that you have done and enabled me to do. Chris came along, spoke to the children and helped take them in a PE lesson (Rugby – obviously!). He also brought the children each a rugby shirt, which the children have greatly appreciated. Chris was fantastic in the way he supported what I was doing this term (using the World cup to inspire their learning). He made it fun and interesting and Thanet Wanderers have acted as a boost to my class. He has stayed in touch and pop in again. I think this sort of community work is invaluable. A couple of the children have pledged to join Thanet Wanderers or their own local club (some of our children travel a distance in). Whilst they may not do so immediately I think the very fact they want to is extremely positive. I think many of them will remember the experience for a good while – especially having the shirts! Alongside their learning this helps them think about being active, participating in sport and team based activities. Once again I would like to thank Thanet Wanderers and Chris for working with me and I hope we can repeat this on o
