After not being able to field a team for the last 7 weeks, the u17 played Old Colfes
Thanet started really well, with Craven diving over the line with just 90 seconds following some quick ball from the forwards. Old Colfes scored a try to make it 7:7, then Thompson replied just 5 minutes later with a good team try. This was followed by a try from Cullen who ripped the ball from Colfes on their 5M after a cross field kick and ran the ball home for Thanet’s third try. Wyatt finished off the half with a great swan dive following his run from our half to score Thanet’s 4th Try of the day. 24-7 at half time didn’t do the lads justice, as they could have had at least two more.
The second half was a different tale Old Colfes came back into the game and scored from the kick-off to make it 24:14, Thanet came back and another try from Thompson made it 29:14, but at this point Thanet’s lack of match fitness/ fitness allowed Old Colfes back into the game and after a yellow card to Thanet, Old Colfes were on a roll and scored two tries, one which was converted to make it 29:26.
The game could have went either way, but eventually a bit of composure was instilled in the Thanet team and after some really good play from the pack, Thanet were awarded a penalty in front of the posts which Thompson converted to make it 32:26 to Thanet, a lead the boys were not going to give up.
This was a great team performance and Thanet deserved the win, just.
