Sunday saw the B XV travel to Sittingbourne in their final warm up game before they recommend their Kent Cup campaign next week. And they came away with the spoils in a 31-15 victory.
With a few unavailable players, Thanet played with 14 for the 70 minute game and started the strongest with early tries from Harrison Leach, Harry Carter and Archie Rixon. That gave Wanderers a 17-0 lead after 21 minutes.
Whereas that should have been the trigger to move on and put Bourne to the sword, several players started to step outside of the team structure which let Sittingbourne back in.
With strong runners across the park, the home side tested the Thanet defence and some poor tackle technique allowed them back into the game with a try either side of half time. 17-10 to Thanet.
Some step-up performances from captain Rixon and Lsecond row, Leon Munt playing in the centre put Wanderers back on the front food.
Alongside some standout defensive performances from Gus Goodsell, Gabe Durrant and Hallum Oliver, Wanderers started to take control again.
After a 60m break from Carter, Leach sniper over for his second before Sinngbourne closed the gap to 24-15 with a well worked try.
Then Munt got his well-deserved try in the dying minutes having bounced the ball on his previous chance some 10 minutes earlier.
Wednesday's training session will focus on some of the technical issues identified in this game in preparation for the Old Elthamians match next week, 1100 Sunday.
Tries: Leach 2, Carter, Rixon, Munt
Con: Leach 3
