Match Report & Information

What a great winning start from the Thanet U12s against Maidstone this weekend. The day could not have started any worse with an early morning call from Maidstones coach asking if the game was still on, considering the heavy rain falling. We were confident, however, that the weather would lift in time for the 11am kick off and that it did! This was the first game of the season for the boys and they were all fired up and ready. We had finished our fixtures last season on a low at the U11s county festival with only one win from 4 games. However, a successful post-season tour on the South Coast, some pre-season training along with plenty of hard work at the start of this season had given the boys the confidence they needed. The game started at a ferocious pace with some big tackles from both sides. It was Thanet however, that came out on the good with Carl Gordan-Durrant using his size and strength to power over after two minutes of play. Maidstone took the re-start and with the ball changing possession several times it would be another 8 minutes before the next try with Maidstones tall fast centre to score from his own half. Two minutes later Maidstone had scored again and now Thanet were 5-10 down. Down but not out it was only a matter of time before Thanet would score to level at 10 a piece with Reece Merrifield making a great supported try. There would have been more points to Maidstone had it not been for Noah Bulls awesome try saving tackle on the Maidstone winger who was tearing towards the try line just before half time, Noah winded, the half time whistle blew just at the right time. The half time talk came from the boys themselves as they knew they just needed to do much the same in the second half. The second half got under way with tackle after tackle from both sides and some great rucking from Archie Hill and Alfie Oliver. The ball coming out on the Thanet side and now being moved through their hands, it was not long before Samuel Gravelle, sitting out on the wing had the confidence to back himself and score in the corner. Two minutes later Jago Forde intercepted and scored from the halfway line. Another try for Thanet came from Noah giving us a lead of 25-10 to the good. However, Maidstone were not done yet and back they came at us four minutes later with a well worked team try 25-15. Thanet boys were on a high and playing out of their socks, a brace of tries from Reece sealed it for Thanet 35-15. A great performance from the whole team saw them earn themselves a good home win and the confidence going forward. Team: Sean Allan, Noah Bull, Oliver Davies, Alex Dyer, Jago Forde, Stanley Goodall, Carl Gordan-Durrant, Samuel Gravelle, Devon Greig, Archie Hill, George Hughes, Reece Merrifield, Alfie Oliver, Joshua Owen, Cai Redmond, Brodie Vaughan.
