Course Information

The EFARU course has been developed by the RFU to meet the needs of players. It is a fully recognised Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course with extra rugby-specific elements designed for coaches, match officials and volunteers who are designated as a first-aider and are responsible for providing pitch-side cover at both training and matches. It aims to equip you with the basic skills necessary to manage the incident safely and competently until further help arrives such as paramedic or other healthcare professional.

You will notice that unlike many generic first aid courses, there is specific emphasis on those injuries that are important in rugby, not because they are necessarily common, but because of the importance in managing them correctly to prevent further harm.

The EFARU sits on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and is awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications.

It is recognised that we all have lives outside rugby (most do anyway!), so what you learn on the course (and the qualification) is also transferable into the home and workplace. Providing you with the ability and potentially lifesaving skills, to deal with an incident wherever you may be.

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to provide Emergency First Aid cover within your club, or organisation as an emergency first aider. It is important to only provide support and assistance in areas that you have been trained in, although it is also recognised that it is important to do something than nothing at all.

Similar to many other First Aid qualifications the EFARU qualification is valid for 3 years.
